Named "one of ballet's most exciting undertakings" by The New York Times, the Dance Theatre of Harlem has electrified theaters around the world with its passion, power and technical precision. Pushing boundaries for four decades and counting, this multicultural ensemble has evolved into one of the nation's most vital dance institutions. For this program at The Paramount Theater in Seattle, the troupe of 14 racially diverse dance artists will perform four exhilarating works from Dance Theatre of Harlem's repertoire: Jose Limón's tour de force Chaconne, Nacho Duato's Coming Together, a complex work set to the music of Frederic Rzewski and the words of political prisoner Sam Melville, Robert Garland's New Bach, a work that fuses neoclassical ballet with elements of popular dance, and Francesca Harper's System, which explores race, gender and economics, and features live accompaniment by a Seattle Symphony string quartet.
