A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program presents The Good Woman of Setzuan, a comic fantasy by German playwright Bertolt Brecht (The Threepenny Opera, Mother Courage and Her Children). Three gods descend to Earth in search of one good person and discover that kindness and compassion don't pay the rent. After they give Shen Te, a kind and generous prostitute, the money to buy a tobacco store, she is driven to disguise herself as the shrewd and unethical male businessman Shui Ta in order to navigate the demands of love, family and hungry neighbors. In this production about good versus evil, forced displacement, and economic oppression, we find as much relevance now as it had in its inception in 1941. Discover the tale at San Francisco's Strand Theater.
