In 2012, The New Yorker staff writer Ariel Levy left for a reporting trip to Mongolia -- pregnant, married and financially secure. Just one month later, none of that was true. The ensuing essay, "Thanksgiving in Mongolia," won Levy awards and a great deal of attention. Now her brand-new memoir, The Rules Do Not Apply, expands on that essay's exploration of how she built an unconventional life and watched it fall apart with shocking speed, forcing her to reinvent herself in the wake of incredible loss. Named one of the "Forty Under 40" most influential out individuals by The Advocate, Levy comes to the Jewish Community Center of San Francisco for this conversation with Kelly Corrigan.
