The Swinging Doors are a Portland-based super group of musician’s musicians whose sound harkens back to the Golden Age of Western Swing and Honky Tonk. Drawing upon Western Swing artists like Billy Jack Wills, Tommy Duncan and Ernest Tubb’s Texas Troubadours, The Swinging Doors add a strong dash of Honky Tonk from country giants Merle Haggard, Ray Price and Lefty Frizzell and swinging originals from Brian Oberlin. Much of their music features the signature twin- and triple-lead lines by electric guitars and mandolin.
Brian Oberlin (electric mandolin) co-leads the band with his sizzling electric mandolin and his plaintive, honey-smooth vocals. Oberlin, a mandolin pioneer, has recorded 20 albums, collaborating with notables such as Vassar Clements, Evan Marshall, Gideon Freudmann, and Mike Marshall. He also founded and directs the Oregon Mandolin Orchestra.
Dan Lowinger (electric guitar) and Tommy Chiffon (drums) both play in the Portland-based Western Swing band, the Barn Door Slammers. Their expertise in the field of Western swing is seasoned and unmatched in style and originality.
Rusty Blake (steel guitar) is a member of the L.A.-based super group, the Lucky Stars, and plays in Caleb Klauder Country Band.
Chris Kee (bass), a recent California transplant, has played with many star-studded swing and bluegrass groups for years, including Peter Rowan.
