The grand dame of all American ensembles -- and still one of the most daring -- the Martha Graham Dance Company celebrates its 90th anniversary with a showcase of masterpieces by its profoundly influential namesake, as well as newly commissioned works by contemporary choreographers inspired by her earth-shaking take on modern dance. This special performance brings one of Graham's most famous and joyful pieces, 1948's love and romance-inspired Diversion of Angels, to the stage at Portland's Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, as well as her Dark Meadow Suite. The company's current artistic director Janet Eilber will be on hand for a pre-show talk to discuss Graham's lasting legacy as "the Picasso of dance."
