Luck might be the only lady (and even her character is in question) among the delightfully dubious denizens of Guys and Dolls Jr., the musical tribute to a bygone New York performed by young actors. It's the early '50s, and the saloons and street corners of Broadway are crowded with characters. There's Sarah Brown, a straight-laced missionary out to reform Times Square sinners; Sky Masterson, the high roller who woos her on a bet; Adelaide, the nightclub performer with the 14-year-long engagement; and Nathan Detroit, her fiancé and runner of New York's "Oldest Established Permanent Floating Craps Game." Their funny and romantic escapades are presented in this junior version of the Broadway crowd-pleaser that's been condensed for younger performers. Catch it at the Alpenrose Dairy Opera House in Portland.
