Pianist Alessio Bax, violinist Paul Huang and the Orion String Quartet lead a lyrical trip to Italy, with selections by Puccini, Verdi, Respighi and Rota. This Alice Tully Hall concert kicks off, though, with Bax's performance of one of Mendelssohn's most famed Songs Without Words, Op. 19. No. 6, inspired by a moonlit gondola ride in Venice. Hailed by Gramophone as "remarkable," Italy's exciting young pianist is a 2009 Avery Fisher Career Grant winner who's received praise around the globe for his recent CD and live performances. Huang will team with Bax for Respighi's Sonata in B minor for Violin and Piano, and the acclaimed Orion ensemble is set to perform quartets by Puccini, Wolf and Verdi.
