The Bar Method Lake Oswego studio provides an effective, fun, and challenging experience in each class while creating a community that is welcoming, supportive, and inspiring.
Our Bar Method Staff (who we consider family) strives to raise the barre from the moment you walk through the door. We are here to challenge and reshape your body, strengthen your mind, improve your confidence, and enhance your life through one incredibly targeted and effective hour using the ballet barre and our expertise in teaching. The result is longer leaner muscles, better posture, increased core strength, and an improved mindset.
Denise Burchard is the owner of The Bar Method Portland, which opened in 2010 — the first in Oregon. She taught The Bar Method for over 8 years and trained under the company’s founder Burr Leonard at the flagship studio in San Francisco, California. Denise has always had a passion for fitness and helping others, and as a former gymnast she has a long-standing love for technique and challenge. Prior to becoming a Bar Method Owner, Denise lived in San Francisco and worked in marketing research. She moved to Portland with her husband in 2008 and immediately began searching for a location to open a Bar Method, her first entrepreneurial adventure.
With the studio’s remarkable success, she began seeking a second location. Once she found a Lake Oswego location, she both on business partner Beth Thomas to help open and run the new studio. “Beth has been such a popular teacher in the Pearl studio and a long-time friend. I’m so excited to work with her to serve the Lake Oswego community.”
Beth Thomas came to The Bar Method Portland in 2012 as a client, and after a year of taking class, she was thrilled when she was asked to teach at the studio. From there, Beth’s passion for The Bar Method turned from spark to flame. During her time as a client and teacher, Beth worked as a retail executive: A career that spanned a decade for several large companies both in food service and big box retail. Beth’s increasing drive and commitment to The Bar Method caught Denise’s attention, and she approached her with the proposition of a partnership in opening the Lake Oswego studio. Beth jumped at the chance to be able to work with a friend and mentor doing something she loved, so she left her job in corporate America in October 2015 to open LO as a co-owner.
Thomas said, “The Bar Method is famous for being a supportive and encouraging community where clients can connect and work together to achieve their goals. Denise and I are thrilled to bring this magic and environment to Lake Oswego.”
