Jazz violinist James Sanders and pianist Kevin O'Connell come to the stage at Winter's Jazz Club to pay tribute to Johnny Frigo and Joe Vito, two of Chicago's most legendary jazz musicians. Born in 1916, Frigo got his start as a violinist before picking up the bass for much of his six-decade career, where he performed in musical comedy routines with Chico Marx's orchestra and later authored the jazz standard "Detour Ahead." It wasn't until the 1980s that Frigo returned to the violin and joined Joe Vito -- a renowned jazz pianist who had performed with the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra -- for a weekly gig at the Toulouse Nightclub, where a young James Sanders first saw him play and was inspired to study jazz. Don't miss these accomplished improvisers when they honor two of their musical idols.
