The world-famous Joffrey Ballet pays tribute to choreographers from around the world in Global Visionaries, a program featuring the premieres of two new pieces at Chicago's Auditorium Theatre. First up is the world premiere performance of a new work by Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman, who the Chicago Sun-Times raved is "an inspired joker and true man of the theater." Then comes the Chicago premiere of Russian choreographer Yuri Possokhov's imagining of Bartok's The Miraculous Mandarin -- a pantomime ballet so scandalous that it was banned on moral grounds after its premiere in Germany in 1926. Finally, the Joffrey presents Dutch chorographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa's spellbinding and sexy Mammatus, which seeks to capture the ebb and flow of a turbulent cloud formation.
