After serving eight years in prison, reformed gang leader S. Lance Ingram rejoins society -- and struggles to adapt to a changed Harlem. Living under the tough supervision of a parole officer, Lance is forced to take a job at a food pantry, where he befriends strong 'n' sassy Ms. Maddy and assumes responsibility for her 15-year-old grandson, Ty, a promising student who's pulled into a dangerous street gang. But when gang members punish Ty for disobeying the "law of the streets," Lance risks sacrificing his redemption so that Ty can have a better life. Directed by Jamal Joseph, a leader of the Black Panther Party who spent time in prison, Chapter and Verse is "[a] tough/tender portrait of an ex-con attempting to find redemption in modern-day transitional Harlem" (Los Angeles Times). Don't miss this powerful drama at the Emerson Paramount Center in Boston.
