Five Tips for Creating Effective Banner Ads for your Business Listing

Do you use banner ads, and how do you know if they're effective? If you aren't getting many clicks on your banner ad, then it's probably time to optimize it.

1. Interactivity:

Your banner ad needs to resonate with the viewer. A typical banner ad is simply an image, sized according to a few typical heights and widths (e.g. 250px by 250px for a square sidebar banner). When you click on the banner ad, it takes you to a landing page, where you hope to convince the viewer to purchase your product or service.

The newest trend in banner ads is something called a rich media format. These are far more expensive since they include maximum interactivity with the viewer. You may see a video, invitation to connect on social media or even an offer for something free. And the more bells and whistles, the higher conversion rates your company will receive.

2. Readability

Do not crunch all your graphics together. It’s important to use your space wisely. That means making text easy to read with the right amount of white space around it.  Place words so they are easy to read.

3. Compelling imagery

Choose images that attempt to engage the interest of the viewer. The best photos are a person doing something interesting that appeals to your readers. It can be as simple as a bored man watching TV through a window while he pretends to clean the gutters. People will see an interesting message in useful photos.

4. Creative message

Yes, copywriting really matters. You only have a few words to get your point across. Make them count by pounding home your points. Don’t oversell, but compel the reader with an interesting nugget.

5. Call to action

Have you heard how great actions follow great convictions in sales and business? This is your chance to convince the user of exactly what they need to do … and do it right now. It’s not for you, it’s for the betterment of themselves and whatever they are hoping to accomplish. Make it happen today. (Convincing, right?)

6. Brand incorporation

Who are you? Get your colors, insignia and logo in front of your viewers. These brand impressions are what will help you get noticed if and when your brand is seen somewhere else outside of internet marketing.

7. Strong text

We don’t mean the message, we mean the fonts. Use a bold size with high contrast to the background so it’s easy for the viewer to read what you have to say.

8. Humor

If you are ever at a loss for a good banner add, choose something funny. This is often the best way to make sure that you are entertaining your audience, not just showing them advertising.
