Bend, OR based electronic music producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ puts forth his first studio album titled “Queen of the Night”. The six song album is a 38 minute sprawling journey of lush ambient drone, prominent melodies, thick bass lines and heavy yet to the point electronic and organic drum patterns. Drawing from heavy influences in post-rock, shoegaze and math rock, Signal Bath puts forth an electronic sound derived primarily from the use of heavily effected guitar riffs, loops and improvisation. A highly electronic sound more at home at a rock show than at a sweaty dance club.
The sound of Signal Bath (Born Shane Thomas) is built on random anomalies found in improvisation and loops. He thrives on the idea that a particular sound or sample may never be recreated or reproduced. Like bottling artifacts in sound, Signal Bath builds loops out thru improvisation and the heavy use of guitar stompbox-style effects. He then records them into Ableton for further manipulation and experimentation. His music is mostly built from chance. For drums Shane employs a mixture of organic live drums sounds juxtaposed over electronic programed drum patterns. His weapon of choice on Queen of the Night is the Teenage Engineering PO-12, a little drum machine the size of a calculator that creates some pretty unique and strange drums sounds and patterns. Using melody as the vocalist in his compositions, Signal Bath puts forth a largely electronic sound that is mostly dark with a highly cinematic feel. The sound tho minimal, has strong moments of climax that are sometimes heavy, abrasive and painful while other times are blissful and beautiful. For Signal Bath these sounds come from a place that is highly meditative and calming, which excites him that he is able to ‘bottle’ it by recording it and make a song out of something that is truly a once in a li
